Digital tools have enhanced the overall quality of therapy and the ease of use for patients and the whole dental team. However, this is not the only possible implementation of this new technology. These are also powerful communication tools in clinical settings and can be used to enhance the acceptance of therapy through: • better dentist-patient communication • better quality of restoration through better dentist–laboratory communication, • better dentist–general population (potential future patients) communication through better presentations of our capabilities. Among all dental disciplines, periodontology is the one most set in biology. It demands time always to be respected. It pressures us to change the patient's habits for the better. Periodontology doesn't translate well to tear-jerking „before-and-after“ smile makeover videos. Patients rarely recognize or appreciate its importance, as it usually serves either as a preparatory or a save-face therapy stage in complex clinical protocols. When skipped, often due to the inability to charge the treatment itself, it generally leads to a catastrophe. Communicating periodontology to a patient requires knowledge of linguistics and psychology. Choosing power words, understanding human motivation and mastering particular conversation styles all play an important role. Through a series of successful and horror clinical cases, this lecture tells the story of how to be(come) better at translating periodontology to our patients.

We have come a long way from the early beginnings of the team approach in creating smiles and rehabilitating patients. Facial analysis, designing smiles and creating wax-ups are still present however in a new form. Today, by using digital tools, we facilitate a much higher level of communication between the dental office and the dental laboratory and, simultaneously, the presentation of the therapy itself to the patient. Design software in the dental laboratory, when used to its full potential, facilitates the work of dental technicians and makes the therapy outcomes more predictable. During this lecture, we will go through, in detail, how the dental laboratory communicates with the whole team while planning the patient's therapy step by step. We will also show the techniques and tips to properly photograph the patient and use the same photographs in the software for smile design, and finally, we will show how to transfer that same smile design into the final restoration.

In this presentation, I will share how the digital and hybrid workflow operates in my laboratory, highlighting the tools and technologies we use to optimize processes and minimize errors. I will begin with a brief introduction explaining the differences between the digital/hybrid workflow in a small lab (atelier) with a maximum of 3 people and a larger lab like mine, which has a bigger team and more robust infrastructure. I will also present the strategies I use in my laboratory, along with a summary of our production numbers and financial results, to demonstrate how implementing an efficient digital workflow directly impacts both the quality and performance of the business. Throughout the presentation, I will detail the software we use for internal communication with the team and external communication with clients, including: • Smile Cloud: Facilitating integrated smile planning between the clinic and the lab. • Exocad: Used for the design and planning of restorations, ensuring precise customization. • Matise: For selecting materials and colors, ensuring aesthetic harmony with patients' expectations. • Optshade: Helping to communicate precise color matching, essential for achieving high- quality aesthetic results. • Chat Mail, Dropbox, and WhatsApp: when and which situations we use this tools for fast and efficient communication both internally and with clients. Additionally, I will demonstrate how these software tools are applied in real clinical cases, showing a specific problem and how utilizing these resources allows us to find effective solutions, minimizing errors in the process. Finally, I will discuss the flaws we have corrected over time, such as poor communication about material and color selection, and how we are overcoming technical challenges and continuously adapting our team to the new technologies. This will be a dynamic session, featuring practical examples, real numbers, and plenty of tips on optimizing digital and hybrid workflows, elevating both quality and efficiency in the daily operations of the lab.
