The level of prosperity we enjoy in life is largely determined by our identity and the image we have of ourselves.
Our identity is built from a whole series of beliefs that sabotage us on our path to that prosperity. What are the most common beliefs that present obstacles to our path to well-being?
- We do not have a clear definition of what exactly prosperity represents for us.
Clarity is strength. If we do not have a clear definition of prosperity in our life, then we only have colorful dreams and daydreams, with a minimal chance of realizing those dreams. - We don’t have any or not enough good coaches.
The best among us always have top coaches. I can’t emphasize enough the important role that a top coach can play in achieving prosperity at all levels. - We allow excessive pessimism or excessive optimism from others to thwart the execution of our plan.
Once we have made a decision and are moving towards executing the plan, it is not good to change our decisions frequently due to the influence of the environment. The famous saying goes – make your decisions quickly and change them slowly. Execution is the key factor in success. Do not sacrifice your well-being because of your own inability to execute the plan. - We don’t think of our lives as a business that needs to make a profit at the end of the year.
This profit at the end doesn’t necessarily have to be a material category. Profit can be a new foreign language you’ve learned or a new skill you’ve acquired. Also think about the longer term perspective of your life – what you can achieve in three, five or ten years from now. Look at where you are now and where you were, say, 5 years ago. - We don’t have a realistic plan.
A plan is a “Google maps” that guides you step by step towards achieving your goal. A plan is not a fantasy about a destination – it is a mirage that constantly eludes us. A plan must be a clear path from point “A” to point “B”. - We give up too easily, faced with potentially huge financial challenges.
The ability of a person to face the unknown and not run away without a care is the foundation of personal development and progress in life. If we are aware of ourselves, then we know that we are here to go through the path of transformation and become a better version of ourselves, and without obstacles this is not possible. Too often we allow negative beliefs to force us to give up and every obstacle is an opportunity to realize this.
Or as one of my mentors always says when faced with the unknown: “Everything I need
(to overcome these obstacles), is already within me!” - We don’t condemn ourselves to an unconditional victory from the very beginning.
Instead of saying that giving up on achieving prosperity is not an option, by using the wrong words and excuses, we program ourselves for failure. The key is that if one approach doesn’t work, we need to change the approach and move on. When we change our internal narrative from “I will try” to “I must succeed,” we increase our chances of achieving the outcome. - We define our prosperity in such a way that we do not believe in its realization.
The proverb says that an elephant is eaten in pieces. If we define well-being in such a way that we are not 100% convinced that we have a realistic chance of achieving it, we are sabotaging ourselves from the very beginning.
