Among all dental disciplines, periodontology is the one most set in biology. It demands time always to be respected. It pressures us to change the patient's habits for the better. Periodontology doesn't translate well to tear-jerking „before-and-after“ smile makeover videos. Patients rarely recognize or appreciate its importance, as it usually serves either as a preparatory or a save-face therapy stage in complex clinical protocols. When skipped, often due to the inability to charge the treatment itself, it generally leads to a catastrophe. Communicating periodontology to a patient requires knowledge of linguistics and psychology. Choosing power words, understanding human motivation and mastering particular conversation styles all play an important role. Through a series of successful and horror clinical cases, this lecture tells the story of how to be(come) better at translating periodontology to our patients.
