We have come a long way from the early beginnings of the team approach in creating smiles and rehabilitating patients. Facial analysis, designing smiles and creating wax-ups are still present however in a new form. Today, by using digital tools, we facilitate a much higher level of communication between the dental office and the dental laboratory and, simultaneously, the presentation of the therapy itself to the patient. Design software in the dental laboratory, when used to its full potential, facilitates the work of dental technicians and makes the therapy outcomes more predictable. During this lecture, we will go through, in detail, how the dental laboratory communicates with the whole team while planning the patient’s therapy step by step. We will also show the techniques and tips to properly photograph the patient and use the same photographs in the software for smile design, and finally, we will show how to transfer that same smile design into the final restoration.
